Icebreaker

Need a new sports romance? I got you. “Icebreaker” by Hannah Grace have to be your next read if you enjoy contemporary romance with a dash of humor and a whole lot of heart. I’m super excited to chat about this swoon-worthy book that had me hooked for more than one reason. This is one of the books that make you crave not only for the intimate relationship the main characters have but also the kind of friendship they had with the side characters and the funny and heartwarming banter. I could fuck Henry (the side character) only if I could, main characters who? (no offense, please, I love them too. It just my dramatic side) This is the world where figure skating and hockey collide, so buckle up guys.

Nathan & Anastasia from “Icebreaker”

Anastasia, a college figure skater who’s about to compete in major competition, meets the hockey team’s star player, Nathan when the latter’s ice rink gets destroyed so they have to share the one Anastasia uses. Thus, their first encounter is anything but smooth, which leads to some seriously funny and awkward moments. Anastasia is a character you can’t help but root for, driven, passionate, and has this awesome snarky edge(yeah, who doesn’t love a strong female lead). Nathan, on the other hand, is a bit of a brooding, misunderstood jock with a heart of gold.

The Sporty Side

Grace brings both figure skating and hockey to life. You get a real sense of the dedication, hard work and passion these athletes put into their sports. I can feel the motivation flowing through me after reading how fulfilling it is to be so ambitious and strong. The way Grace doesn’t shy away from the realities of training, competition, and the pressure that comes with it. It adds a new and nice layer of authenticity to the story.

The Side Characters

What really impressed me is how Grace make the side characters so perfect. If you don’t want to read Nathan and Anastasia’s story, please, please do read the friendship between her and Henry. Henry literally has my whole heart. Nathan’s whole friend circle, yeah all of them I love those friends so much. JJ, Robbie, Henry and there were 2 3 more, love them all. But henry has a soft spot in my heart. Sabrina and Robbie’s banter were also very cute and swoon worthy. However, the one and only character I hate and would enjoy killing is Aaron Carlisle, Anastasia’s skating partner (that bastard annoys me so much, I’m not even kidding. Even though all the drama was because of him, he is still a shithead).

What I loved about “Icebreaker” and didn’t

This book explores important themes such as loss, grief, friendship and resilience. The novel is both thought-provoking and uplifting. While I thoroughly enjoyed Icebreaker, there were a few moments where the pacing felt a bit slow. However, this did not disrupt the overall enjoyment of the story. There are so many swoony moments and moments that set our standards so high(well, if a romantic book doesn’t set the standards high, I’m sorry to say but that book fails to be a book).

Would I Recommend it?

Absolutely!!!!!!!!!! Whether you’re a fan of sports or just love a good romance, this book has something special to offer. So, whoever say this book isn’t worth it, give them a slap across the face without the second thought. This book got everything you could want: relatable character, sizzling chemistry, and a peek into the world of competitive sports.
