King of Sloth(#4)

Ana Huang’s “King of Sloth”: A Closer Look

Hello there, book enthusiasts! If you’re looking for a hot, sweet romance with a touch of clever banter, Ana Huang’s “King of Sloth” is the book for you. This book has been making waves, and for a good reason. So, grab your favorite blanket and a cup of tea, and let’s dig into this fascinating read! Dedication?

To every woman who’s ever been told to “smile more.” Fuck that. Do what you want.

This is the story where love starts with a kiss. From not believing in rom-coms to having a rom-com inspired love story. “Unrealistic” happily ever afters. Kisses on top of the Empire State Building. The idea that love always prevails, even when it’s between the unlikeliest of partners. “King of Sloth” is a successful love letter to romcoms.
The journey to find the person for which love is worth fighting for.

The Characters?

The heart of “King of Sloth” is Xavier Castillo and Sloane Kensington, two characters who are both compelling and complex. Xavier is the story’s quintessential “king,” a charming character with a lazy streak. He has that easygoing swagger that makes you want to root for him, even though he appears to prefer sitting on a couch over dealing with anything slightly serious (perks of being rich beyond belief). Sloane, on the other hand, is the perfect counterbalance—a hardworking, no-nonsense PR with a track record of turning disasters into triumphs.

(Let me keep their appearances for you to imagine yourself. All I would say is that they both thought that even Michelangelo himself couldn’t have sculpted a better form.)

The Plot?

Xavier Castillo, who has the world at his fingertips, has no interest in taking over his family’s empire (much to his father’s chagrin). But when Xavier’s father dies, he is left with a clause stating that he can only collect his inheritance if he becomes CEO. His laid-back lifestyle is suddenly interrupted by the will’s aspects and Sloane’s relentless energy who was tasked with rescuing his image. Cold and ambitious Sloane has her own demons and her obvious hate for “unrealistic” romcoms. Falling in love with her client was never on her radar. Her strong woman moments are my favorite, here are some of them:

  • No friend ever served me, and no enemy ever wronged me, whom I have not repaid in full.
  • Some people wallowed after a disaster. Others threw fits of temper. Me? I planned.
(I like how this girl think)

The Romance?

Let’s talk about the romance, shall we? Huang doesn’t simply put together a normal love story. There’s tension, chemistry, and a fair dosage of humor, making the romance feel new and intriguing. The slow-burn component is brilliantly done, and the scenes where things ultimately heat up are worth every page that leads to them. If you enjoy those “will-they-won’t-they” situations that keep you on the edge of your seat, you’ll be thoroughly entertained. Also, Xavier is the kind of man we all manifest, here are little peeks into him:

  • Silver heels added four inches to her height, and her skin glowed like pearls kissed by moonlight. I grimaced. Pearls kissed by moonlight? Where the hell had that come from? I wasn’t a poetic person in the least, but she looked good enough to inspire Shakespeare himself.
(Not Xavier complimenting Sloane in poetry and getting startled but keeps complimenting anyways. Only if real men think like this.)
  • Sloane and I had kissed once, and she’d already ruin other women.
(Yeah, everyone want their man to think just like that. Especially me.)
  • “Because I want you.” (I like the man who know what they want. Who don’t, right?)
  • On their first date, Xavier spent time and efforts instead of money which was most we can say about a playboy like him. He truly and finally found someone to chase and he did it so right. That date was definitely going on my bucket list.

What I Loved

Well, I loved everything about this book as it is the perfect mix of billionaire romance and romcoms. This book couldn’t get any more perfect then it is. A romantic European getaway with a long-term boyfriend, who’d started as a client before they gradually fell in love after their most romantic confession on the top of the Empire State Building. Now we lived together in a town house with a pet fish and a rooftop movie theater, and are nauseatingly, disgustingly blissful. Who said happily ever afters were unrealistic?

(We read these book to think exactly like the last line. Or to escape from reality.)

A Cast of Colorful Characters

The story is enriched by a vibrant cast of secondary characters. Even though it’s a standalone, it would be most enjoyable after reading the first three books. I saw some connections with the twisted series as well and it being my favorite series of all time I couldn’t really keep the details to myself. So here it is:

If I ruined my brand-new Stella Alonso dress over this, I’d kill him, bring him back to clean up the mess, then kill him again.
(
Christian would himself do the pleasure of killing anybody who ruined Stella Alonso’s dress.)

“I won’t say I told you so, but I told you so,” Isabella said. “I knew you and Xavier would eventually give in to your sizzling, delicious—”

(I don’t know why but Isabella give me full Jules vibes. Is it only me?)

There are more moments as Xavier contacts Christian for his club’s security and Jules as his lawyer. So, if you haven’t read that series, I highly recommend it. Check out my blogs as well! Thanks!
