Hello, my fellow hopeless romantics! Get Ready! Because “The American Roommate Experiment” by Elena Armas is all set to captivate your heart and leave you craving more. Motivation? This book gives the best advice for dating life:
“Remember to pick the boy that will plant a garden for you instead of just getting you the flowers.”
This is a not just a book this is a journey. A journey where at the end point you realize that he is the one. And now you don’t think there is someone else or there is any other men at all. A journey of real love.
Not a big fan of slow burns but this ending got me so attached to it that I want my men to read this before dating me.
I have been reading more dark romance lately with dark heroes and “touch her and you die” charade which leads me to thinking or more like fantasying about men who could kill for me or would obsess over me. So, this book was eyeopener as it shows how a gentleman can melts our heart and make us feel loved. I want those cute moments, those cute dates with little sparks and laughing-out-loud moments.
(Just a healthy obsession with Lucas, what is wrong with it right? It’s not like I’m cheating on my morally grey fictional boyfriend with a big D. Even though its seems like that. It’s not)
Setting standards high!!!! More Dedication?
To those waiting on love, be patient. Love is a total drama queen. It’s just waiting to make an entrance.
Someone help me! The introductions are getting stretched out on Elena’s books. Check out the “The Spanish Love Deception” as well.
Here come our main characters:
A Crumbling Ceiling, a Convenient Arrangement
When a freak accident renders Rosie homeless, she finds herself in a precarious situation. Homeless and desperate, she packs her bags and went to her best friend’s place who was away on honeymoon. However, she wasn’t aware that her best friend’s cousin, Lucas, was already using the apartment. As we know that our beloved author – Elena has a jink for memorable first meeting, you can guess how it went. However, after their initial interactions, they settled on a convenient arrangement of being roommates until Rosie has her apartment back in good shape.
The Experiment Begins: Fake Dates
Desperate for inspiration for her next book, Rosie hatches a crazy plan- fake dates which turns her convenient arrangement with Lucas into “the American Roommate Experiment”. Each week, Rosie will plan a date based on a classic rom-com trope, hoping to spark inspiration (and maybe a little something more). However, mostly the dates were designed by Lucas (he was setting her standards sky- high). Here are some lines by Lucas which makes me think that Lucas should start writing books as well:
“The meet-cute, a spark of interest, the sweet anticipation that leads to that first date. First dates are like first impressions: you only have one chance to make it count.”
“The best first dates are goofy. Lighthearted. A little silly. They’re about clicking, seeing if you laugh at the same jokes, if there’s a spark there when you do, one that urges you to make the other person smile again. One that could lead to… more.”
Urgh. These men written by women are taking my heart by a storm. Until I’m getting a first date like this, I’m not going on the second date. You shouldn’t too.
Even the last date had me crying internally at reality. I want something like that too. Desperately at that. Only then I will believe that love exist outside these books too.
Beyond the Laughter: Vulnerability and Growth
“The American Roommate Experiment” isn’t just a laugh-out-loud rom-com. As Rosie and Lucas open up to each other, their vulnerabilities come to light. Rosie grapples with self-doubt and the pressure of writer’s block. Lucas confronts his own emotional baggage and the fear of letting someone in.
(I don’t understand the part that Rosie had such low standards as shown, because someone who writes and reads romcoms or fantasies are bound to have higher standards than the Burj Khalifa itself. Take us (especially me) for example.)
A Slow Burn with a Delicious Payoff
The romance between Rosie and Lucas is a slow burn, fueled by witty banter, late-night heart-to-hearts, and stolen glances. The sexual tension builds steadily, culminating in moments of steamy intimacy that will leave you hot under the collar.
“Elena Armas is the undisputed queen of slow-burn, steamy, deliciously swoony rom-coms.” —Ali Hazelwood, author of The Love Hypothesis
Our other loved author talked about our newly loved author like that so who are we to say anything less. Right?
My Overthinking Part
I don’t know if you could see this but the stories Rosie was trying to write overlap the author- Elena’s The Spanish love deception and this one. “The Spanish love deception” was her first debut just like the “A beautiful and epic love story about a war veteran that travels through time and fights to find a place, his place, beside the woman he so helplessly loves in the present day”. And second is about the main character’s best friend just like in “The American Roommate Experiment”, Lina’s bestfriend Rosie has her own happy ending. I don’t really think it’s true but I wanted to share this thought of mine.
So, grab a copy, settle in for a heartwarming journey filled with laughter and love, and discover if Rosie and Lucas’s experiment leads to something real.
