Calling all rom-com aficionados who enjoy clever banter and a hint of the unexpected! We present “The Spanish Love Deception” by Elena Armas, a fascinating story of a fake romance that develops into something much more, which will have you laughing out loud. A hilarious and heartwarming tale that proves sometimes the best love stories begin with a little white lie.
“Elena Armas is the undisputed queen of slow-burn, steamy, deliciously swoony rom-coms.” –Ali Hazelwood, author of The Love Hypothesis.
Well if this comment doesn’t motivate you to binge read all the books of Elena, I don’t know what can. And it’s telling that you haven’t read The Love Hypothesis yet. And I’m sorry to tell you that you are missing out a lot. LITTERALY A LOT. But if you need more convincing, move forward with the article. If I were you I would have read it merely at the mention of my yet another favorite author Ali Hazelwood.
Ha! The introduction got stretched a bit long. Here come our leads:
Our female protagonist? Catalina Martin
But we will call her “Lina” because that’s what her friends call her and we are more than friends anyways – we are her fans, supporters and obviously followers. (Don’t give me that look, you are also influenced by her, her goodness is contagious.)
Ok now being serious, Lina dreads her sister’s upcoming wedding in Spain. Not only does it involve facing her family’s judgment, but it also means enduring the inevitable questions about her nonexistent love life. In a moment of desperation, she hatches a wild plan: create a fake boyfriend to bring as her plus one.
Her mantra? – “Engineers don’t cry. They build bridges and get over it.” (Being another Engineer, this one is exclusively my new mantra.)
Enter Aaron: The Perfect (Or Pesky) Storm
The chosen one? Aaron Blackford, her insufferably arrogant nemesis from work. He’s everything she dislikes – stoic, workaholic, and utterly devoid of romantic charm (or so she thinks!). But to Lina’s surprise, Aaron offers himself as her fake date for the wedding. Chiseled pecs and abs, stupidly flawless man who loves Up. According to Lina, she wasn’t desperate enough to take Aaron but the prospect of facing her meddling family and judgmental ex is enough to send her running. Thus she reluctantly agrees to the universe’s choices.
(I would have let you guys read the book and find everything about it yourself but I seriously can’t stop myself babbling more about this sweet rom-coms whose many scenes are imprinted in my mind. Now I just need a man who can say “Let’s recreate these scenes, love”. This or nothing. HA! I’m going to die single with such standards.)
Whatever, Moving forward……….
Hidden feeling REVEALED!!!
From the starting point we can see that our beloved hero who is identified as a grumpy person have deep feelings for our heroine. However, the lady in question is unaware, and couldn’t get a hint making us want to slap her in face at a point like “Can’t you see the hints? That person couldn’t be more obvious.”
The way Aaron liked her from the first day but pushed her away because he wasn’t aware of his own feeling. And when he was finally aware and sure about Lina being the one, she was already far away. Well he got a chance after all. The universe is helping them. (*crying tears of happiness*)
Their confession was powerful. (The moment you know the men you like or maybe love as well has been crushing on you since forever. Gosh I want that too. No, I NEED it.)
The Beauty of the Fake: Unmasking True Selves
The more they pretend to be in love, the more the lines between reality and fiction begin to blur. Well, history is a witness that fake relationships are meant to have the most beautiful happily ever afters.
(If somebody is asking you to be their fake date, they are secretly hoping to make you fall in love in them. Being a hopeless romantic, I can’t think otherwise anyways. *giggling hard*)
A Must-Read for Fans of Enemies-to-Lovers and Faking It Till You Make It
If you’re looking for a hilarious rom-com with a sizzling slow burn, a dash of enemies-to-lovers tension, and a fake-dating scheme that goes hilariously wrong, then “The Spanish Love Deception” is a must-read. Get ready to laugh out loud, swoon over the characters, and root for their happily ever after.
The Most Hilarious First Meetups with Elena
Something about the author? Elena is a Spanish writer, a self-confessed hopeless romantic and much Mr. B’s dismay, a proud book hoarder. After years of devouring stories and posting––okay fine, yelling––about them on her Instagram @thebibliotheque, she has finally taken the leap and started creating some of her own.
My fav part is that she makes the first meet-ups very memorable and hilarious (AKA embarrassing). In our “The Spanish Love Deception”, Lina had made a miserably loud entrance after being fifteen minutes late for the meeting Aaron was leading during his first week and also accidentally knocking over a coffee pitcher on Aaron’s presentation.
What do you mean it’s a spoiler? If you are here just for review, baby, I gotta tell you that the introduction covers the review, the remaining part is my views of the book. I’m a lonely girl, okay. I don’t have any friends with which I can share my love for books and HEAs. So, here I’m hoping for a new circle of friends with similar interests. Hence, Free feel to connect with me.
Read Elena’s “The American Roommate Experiment”
To perhaps gush over HEAs together, and who knows, maybe fall a little more in love with love. Because isn’t that the point on all of this?
So, grab a copy, prepare for a delightful escape filled with laughter and steam, and see if Catalina and Aaron’s fake love story blossoms into something real!
